After a successful career running our own business in packaging and distribution, my wife Patricia and I took early retirement and bought our first home in Selsey about 10 years ago and have enjoyed making Selsey our home.
Before that, I have had over 30 years experience of being a County Councillor and if I were elected I would bring that experience with me in representing Selsey without having to spend months or years learning what County Councils do or how they work.
I have always prioritised constant improvements in the efficiency of how Councils work, as every Council Taxpayer has the right to expect their Council is as efficient as the best of the private sector and that is definitely as it should be and needs to be.
My other expertise is in the field of strict budgeting with the aim of keeping the Council Tax as low as we can whilst delivering quality services to our Residents. This is always easier said than done and it needs constant hard work to achieve, but it can be done if you try hard enough.
The County Council is a Strategic Authority serving the whole of West Sussex. It's main tasks are education, social care, highways, childrens services and libraries.
Whilst the task of Selsey's County Councillor is to be Selsey's representative on the team that runs these services, it is very important that that person keeps a sharp eye on the County Council's delivery on its local services to Selsey. We are well served at present and we must make sure that this continues.
I would also want to actively support the local Police, the regeneration of our Selsey High Street, along with Selsey's small businesses and help our fishermen. I have previously done work in Agriculture and Fisheries for the Government and this would also be useful for Selsey.
ROADS
The A27 can be clogged at any time of the day without warning and the B2145 into Chichester can turn into a crawl if a tractor is in sight or the slightest accident or roadworks can bring frustration for people trying to get to work in the morning or home at night. A few safe overtaking places and some critical bend straightening would help it if it ever became possible.
MAINTAIN OUR FANTASTIC SCHOOLS
Our education system delivers some of the best results in the country. Conservatives have successfully campaigned for improved Government funding for schools and will work with our MPs and national Government to ensure promised extra funding helps our schools continue to deliver great result.
FIGHT FOR MONEY FOR ESSENTIAL INFRASTRUCTURE
As our population grows in the future years it will be important that there is funding from developers and central Government for the roads, schools, parks, health facilities and highway improvements that are needed. I will continue to lobby hard to ensure that our County receives it's fair share.
PROTECT OUR COUNTY, REVITALIZING OUR TOWN CENTRES
Conservatives value our countryside, villages and towns. We want to see growth and change managed responsibly. Major new housing estates may not be appropriate for Selsey, but we must have a continued commitment to the regeneration of our town centres.
PRIORITIZE SAFEGUARDING VULNERABLE CHILDREN & ADULTS,
PROVIDING CARE FOR THOSE WHO ARE UNABLE TO HELP THEMSELVES
In addition I would make it a priority to support our existing business community, especially our small and medium enterprises, to grow and flourish, bringing much needed opportunity and prosperity to Selsey and our County
